ABOUT US

Mount Wise Dental Practice began life as Ashton & Prideaux Dental Surgeons, treating the first patient on 9th March 1985. On the 1st June 2016 Dr Malcolm Prideaux and Dr Bridget Ashton sold Mount Wise Dental practice to a former foundation dentist Dr Lisa Mullarkey.

Dr Mullarkey completed her foundation year at Mount Wise Dental Practice in 2007. She went on to complete a year at Derriford Hospital as a Senior House Officer in the Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery department. During this year she completed her exams to become a Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS). In 2011 the lure of Australia came calling and Dr Mullarkey and her husband set sail for the great southern land. She spent four years working in Queensland Health as a Senior Dental Officer as well as working privately.

One thing remained a constant for Dr Mullarkey, if ever Mount Wise Dental Practice came up for sale she wanted to own it. Dr Mullarkey left Australia and returned to Plymouth to complete the sale of Mount Wise Dental Practice in 2015.  At present Dr Mullarkey is working towards her Certificate in Restorative Dentistry at Plymouth University.

We have been an approved Foundation Dentist Training practice for over 25 years.  We currently have one newly qualified dentist who is undertaking a Foundation year within our practice. This year is focused on these dentists gaining NHS experience in general practice while under the mentorship of Dr Prideaux and Dr Mullarkey. Many of our previous Foundation Dentists have gone on to further training, with one reaching the position of Consultant in Maxillofacial Surgery.

In 2006 we gained the BDA Good Practice standard, in order to demonstrate our commitment to high standards, and we have been consistently approved each year since then.

Mount Wise Dental Practice currently cares for approximately two-and a half thousand NHS patients, as well as a number of private patients. We are involved with the local community, and our staff can often be seen at health promotion events in the area.
